Hacker Scouts: Soldering!

Please join us Hacker Scout Open Lab at Metrix. Come learn something new, make something, get help with your project and make new friends! We haven't done a soldering open lab in a few months, so we're doing another one.

Soldering - Learn to Solder* Workshop on basic soldering skill, using an electronic kit from SparkFun. Good for kids 8 and above, or capable younger kids with close parental supervision. Pierce will be leading the workshop using the instructional comic, “Soldering is Easy,” which you can download as a PDF here: http://mightyohm.com/files/soldercomic/FullSolderComic_EN.pdf

We'll have several kits available for the workshop.
"Terror-min" for $10 https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9206
"Larson Scanner" for $10 https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11365

As always, you should feel free to bring any other soldering kit that appeals to you. Ada's Technical Books around the corner from Metrix has a selection of soldering kits, which you can purchase and bring to the workshop. http://seattletechnicalbooks.com/.

If you are interested in soldering and want to buy a kit from us, please tell us what kit you'd like to build, so we can make sure we have enough kits for everyone! We're doing two sessions this week; this is the sign up for the first session.

Note: This is *NOT* a drop-off event -- you must remain and participate with your child.

We are asking for a suggested donation of $10/per kid to help cover the cost of the space. Donations over $10 welcome, and will help cover expenses for families who are unable to afford it. Please record the number of children you are bringing in the quantity space, since we have a limited number of soldering irons.
